Urophagia From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Urophagia is the consumption of urine, which is the liquid by-product of blood filtration in the body. There are various reasons that humans may consume urine. Urine was used in several ancient cultures for various health, healing, andcosmetic purposes, practices which are still used by some people of these cultures today. Urine therapy is a form ofalternative medicine. Thai people had been practicing urophagia for a long time. Other reasons for urophagia include attempting survival, if no other potable fluid is available, though numerous credible sources (including the US Army Field Manual) advise against it. Also, some people consume urine as a sexual activity, and members of at least one culture consume urine for ceremonial purposes. Another use is occasionally found in the Middle East: tasting urine from a female camel to find if the camel is pregnant.
In a survival situation drinking urine is not really a feasible thing to do because of many reasons. First off, you would need to be hydrated and have clear or slightly yellowish colored pee. Meaning that you would have to have captured your urine before the need arose. If you are showing any type of signs of dehydration at all then drinking urine is not advisable. Television Survivalist Experts are at odds when it comes to your daily dose of vitamin P. Bear Grylls, Mykel Hawke, Ruth England and Mr. Stolen Valor himself Joe Teti have all chugged down the golden bladder juice. Included in this article on the left hand side are Urine Color Charts that depict hydration levels. This indicates when you should consume fresh clean water to hydrate not piss! Urophagia is the practice of drinking urine for health benefits. There's controversial disagreement between those that favor the practice and those that say their is no benefit. My point is simple; by the time you realize your thirsty enough to drink your own urine it's already to late in a real life survival situation. I teach my audience, listeners and readers that if you have the proper survival training for finding water, purifying chemically, filtering, treating with ultra-violet light, solar energy or simply by boiling; you should never need to sip on piss. Only one circumstance that might justify drinking bladder juice comes to mind. Your body needs water to digest protein. If you were starving and had no water, but needed water to digest your food, then possibly that would justify the means. However, I would still venture to stand my ground that Knowledge is power and skills developed will prevail, avoid drinking bladder juice. Unless you seriously think drinking vitamin P will make you like Bear Grylls, Mykel Hawke, Ruth England and the infamous stolen valor man himself Joseph Teti.
