SURVIVAL TIPS & FUN FACTS17/8/2016 SURVIVAL TIPS & FUN FACTS:
Fun Fact: Possibles Kit (Frontier Days) Survival Kit (Modern) Fire Shelter Signaling Is the foundation of survival Audible Communication: Sound in the form of a whistle offers the very best chance at being heard at longer distances. The human voice is at times not nearly loud enough to be heard over great distances or through heavy winds or rains. Metal Match, Fire Strikers are great to have in place of a Cigarette Lighter. However having a cigarette lighter is handy to use. Nothing replaces primitive skills in fire crafting. This will ensure you can start a fire no matter what the situation might be if you carry these three forms. Mirror = Signaling Mirror visible as far as 26 miles away (Seen). A mirror is ideal for aircraft & land base signal flashing. Royal Blue & International Orange Royal Blue is the best color (Tarps & Trash Bags) Flagging Tape = Marking Trails Colored Duct Tape or ribbon tape. Mark every visual horizon along your path and direction change. Mark in obvious locations and on trees mark both sides so you see the markings coming and going. Survival Blade/Knife must have unless you know primitive tool making skills. However it's best to have a pocket knife as well as a survival knife. Folding Saws, Flexible Saws & a sharp axe are highly suggested. **Stones, Antlers, and Bones. Direction Finding: Compass (Rated or Mil Spec) 360 degrees/6400 Mils Know cardinal direction finding via Shadow Stick Method or Watch Dial Method. Celestial Navigation is also a handy skill to know. (Based upon the hemisphere you are in for night navigation.) • Make a compass with a silk cloth and thin wire or sewing needle. Rub one side in the same direction. This will magnetize the wire/needle and if you suspend the wire with a string or float on a leaf in a pool of water the magnetized metal will point Magnetic North. • GPS Devices (Always mark your start point first) *pack extra batteries. • MAP Reading (Region Specific) All of the above are known as the TRIANGLE of Navigation. If your ever lost, don't panic! Remain calm and practice S.T.O.P. -Sit -Think -Observe -Plan Water Treatment: • Boil water • Filter Water • Chemical Water Treatment Note: Cryptosporidium is not treated with Iodine. Chlorine Dioxide is a much better choice for a chemical water treatment versus Iodine. Mylar Blankets are a very poor choice for shelter: Instead use- Trash Bags (Thick Heavy Duty) Colored Royal Blue or Orange. They are tougher to tear and serve as a weather barrier. Avoid breathing into to trash bag as your breath carries moisture in it and will condensate. Mylar Blanket is good for signaling rather than for shelter. It's reflective and has a mirror sheen. Mylar has a tendency to puncture and tear. This is a big reason it makes a poor choice for shelter. A wool or fleece blanket will keep you warm. Fleece will hold heat even if wet. Tarps make great shelters: They pack easily, all you need is cordage. **Not tents, poles or steaks. Makes for lighter weight in load bearing. Tarps are more cost efficient as well. Match Storm Proof is the best match REI STORM PROOF MATCH Cigarette Lighters are air pressure sensitive. They get wet and don't work. Metal matches are preferred. But keep a bic style lighter with you. Primitive Fire Crafting is a wonderful skill to have. I highly recommend you take a class on fire crafting at a local survival School. Continued: Cotton Balls 100% cotton and Vaseline. Store in a plastic bag. Great fire starting aid. **Aluminum Foil is highly recommended for use with cotton balls and Vaseline. Fuel/Gasoline Fire Starting DANGEROUS!!! **Note: To safely start a fire with automobile fuel. Use the bottom of a pop can or dig a small hole in the ground. Then fill the bottom of the pop can or hole. This is safe to light. NEVER splash fuel or spill fuel then light it. That will get you severely burned. Signal Mirrors & Signal Fires (Visual Aids) • Spot Beacons (Personal Locator Beacons) Has a transmitter and receiver works off of a satellite. Great asset to communicate with people back home. Wild edibles: Research the region your headed in first. Know the five edible plants, berries and tree bark commonly found in the region your visiting. This preparedness practice will serve great dividends towards your survival. Traps & Snares • Spring Snare Trap • Dead Fall Traps • Funnel Basket Weave Fish Traps These are the most commonly used primitive traps and easy to set once you learn correctly how they are made. Best to set along game trails or animal runs. Primitive Fishing/Hobo Fishing are great skills to develop as well. This knowledge will last a lifetime. Your only limited by your own imagination as with many things related to survival. Campsite Location Selecting: Avoid Ravines, Animal Game Trails to avoid become trampled on by deer or other animals. Avoid natural animal habitats such as snakes and other critters. Also avoid river and creek beds as they tend to be unpredictable and dangerous to shelter in for any length of time during rainy season. Written by Survivalist & Adventurer Daniel W. DO YOU HAVE A DREAM?9/6/2016 Dreams are a funny thing. Some people achieve and some do not. It takes commitment, steady work, goals, and more. The one thing it takes that's probably most important is belief. Nobody has the power to take away your dreams, not family, friends, leaders, groups, media and certainly not enemies. One action each day towards your goals is one step closer. Cause goals accomplished make dreams a reality. Sometimes the first thing that derails a person's dream faster than anything else is relationships with bad influences or selfish demands. Sometimes you have to make a tough choice and cut people off so that you can make your dreams come true. The other thing is anyone helping you to attain your dreams by accomplishing goals needs to be appreciated and brought along with you to the top. Never burn bridges with good people. Sometimes you have to work countless hours, sometimes without payment or immediate gratification. You also need to not get placed in a rut, if it's not working step back and try a better way. Never sacrifice family time especially with your soulmate or children. Safeguard those two things at all costs. It's okay to support others in their dreams as long as it does not distract from your path, it is ok to say no to someone and not need to explain many details. Sometimes offering to much personal insight can be your downfall. Keep it brief and keep it simple. Delete, ban then block all haters. As your dreams come true people will try to pull you down. But I promise you they will not be able too no matter their threats as long as you shut them out and stay on path. Ignore stupidity, avoid politics, just promote your dream. Insights and analytics are great tools in Internet marketing to see what's working and what's not. Know your audience and customize to them while you attract new customers or supporters. Always pay it forward, people remember acts of kindness. Most of all remember as a leader, coach, mentor, friend always love instead of hate. If you hate then remove what you hate so you can get back to the dream. Never change for anyone else but for you, always improve for you. These are things my soulmate reminded me of when I struggle and things I know, but sometimes it takes a person that cares for you to remind us. Always get advice from someone that's more successful than you and more experienced, my soulmate is leaps and bounds ahead of me as an established and successful business pioneer. You might have to search out your mentor and that can come in the form of personal relationship, books, video or faith based. I post this message today with all good intentions as a form of paying it forward to the person that may have needed to read this and at the right time they read and it helped them. This is Daniel W. Shrigley and to all my supporters, THANK YOU!

www.DanielShrigley.com | Urophagia From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaUrophagia is the consumption of urine, which is the liquid by-product of blood filtration in the body. There are various reasons that humans may consume urine. Urine was used in several ancient cultures for various health, healing, andcosmetic purposes, practices which are still used by some people of these cultures today. Urine therapy is a form ofalternative medicine. Thai people had been practicing urophagia for a long time.[1] Other reasons for urophagia include attempting survival, if no other potable fluid is available, though numerous credible sources (including the US Army Field Manual) advise against it. Also, some people consume urine as a sexual activity, and members of at least one culture consume urine for ceremonial purposes. Another use is occasionally found in the Middle East: tasting urine from a female camel to find if the camel is pregnant. |

BUG OUT BAG - QUICK TIP
18/5/2016
The most important items you need to pack are • Water • Crackers • Peanut Butter. You need more water, and water is heavy. But that is the most important thing you need to take with you. You will need carbohydrates and protein. It would not hurt to include a salt lick. My suggestion if you take weapons and ammo; you better pack body armor with a ballistic ESAPI chest plate & back plates. Also include a Kevlar helmet. With ballistic proof eyewear. I highly suggest, not wearing sneakers. Get yourself a nice comfortable pair of Oakley combat boots. Also reinforced knuckled Oakley combat gloves.
(Avoid all roadblocks at all costs, unless it’s impossible and life or death.)
When bugging out you will likely encounter communities that will not allow access or entry. They may not allow you to approach either in vehicle or on foot. There are two types of roadblocks. Military/ law-enforcement and criminal. During a crisis situation, the criminal element may present to imposter law enforcement or military. If you find yourself in this situation. Stop ahead of time, and evaluate the situation. Observe the activities of that roadblock or checkpoint. You are looking for the procedure and operating standards at the roadblock. If you observe anything threatening then immediately turn around and find a safer route. If you observe the road blocked is being operated in a professional manner obey all instructions and approach slowly. Do not present yourself to be a threat. Do not present your weapons and be prepared to present state or federal issued ID, or passport. Be prepared to have a full vehicle search, full search of personnel and inventory. Your number one assets will consist of weapons, ammo, food, water, gold, silver, jewelry, fuel, batteries, vehicles, and your woman. These will be the things the criminal element will want to take from you, they will kill you for it. The best measure possible is to have a predetermined route with as minimal vehicle traffic as possible. Always plan alternate routes. Upon arrival at a law-enforcement or military checkpoint you must remember that small arms are the least concern, they are concerned mostly with VBIED's (car bombs) so it is highly important that you obey all instructions both on signs and via verbal commands. The second most important concern will be the spread of a pandemic. The best thing you can do before arriving is to cover your face and mouth with a medical mask. If approaching a checkpoint at night be sure to dim your lights. Never approach a checkpoint at a high rate of speed, always travel at 5 to 10 mph or less. During a crisis situation, the checkpoint may not have the man power to segregate gender searches appropriately. Females may have to tolerate being searched by the opposite sex. Always be aware of what is considered to be contraband items, and avoid having them in your possession. During a crisis situation, you may find that you have to do a vehicle swap often, picking up the skill of how to hotwire a vehicle will save you from doing a lot of walking. Remember during a situation of TEOTWAWKI or SHTF The infrastructure will be totally collapsed with in 24 days or less. The only place you will be able to obtain fuel will be from other vehicles. So either you have a siphoning kit, or you learn how to hotwire a vehicle. Be prepared to be turned around and sent on your way at a law enforcement or military checkpoint. Do not, do not trespass on military installations. They will most likely have authorization to use deadly force without warning. Your best bet, will be to egressed the urban areas. But it might not be feasible to travel across multiple states. The more you travel the more you expose yourself to the criminal elements. It's best to get somewhere safe fast and hunker down. Also research how to survive in nuclear, biological and chemically contaminated areas.
Survival Situation: Dealing With Death
10/5/2016
Dealing With Death:
First thing you do is make your friend as comfortable as possible, and if they are lucid and conscious, they will most likely be panicked and read off of yours and the others behavior. You will really need to try to keep a level head to avoid causing additional mental anguish to the dying. Remember, you have to still survive and attain either rescue or self rescue. Your friend has passed away in front of your eyes and in your arms. Naturally everyone is going to be sensitive and upset with the entire situation. Depending on location and environment you will need to secure the body properly, Protect it from animals and insects as well as cover the body to block it from exposure and for a sense of peace. You need to tend to the surviving members of the group, you must do your very best to be focused. You need to be certain to clearly mark the location for a recovery team and note down easily identifiable landmarks and/or terrain features. If you intend to transport the body during self rescue efforts there are a few Litter Carry methods you may use. This really needs to have a lot of safety considerations to the group. You must take into consideration the physical abilities and health of each member, additionally their true limitations.
The first consideration will be weather, terrain, distance and the actuality of success in order to evacuate the deceased. While taking the deceased with you put in jeopardy you and the other members? Remember, you are all still in survival mode. You still need to survive by the fundamentals of survival and the priorities. That means Shelter, Fire, Water and Food, need to take the forefront of concern. You still need to establish group tasks and responsibilities. You also need to work towards signal and communication by cell, radio, sound, and sight. Remember you may not be able to rely on your tech devices due to failure, malfunction, signal, or battery power. You may need to rely on mirror, fire, smoke, noise, or markings.
Making The Decision:
Either you and the group have decided it's best to recover the body and carry it out with you to attain rescue, or leave it behind in an easy to find location. You will want to cover the body with rocks to prevent wildlife from tampering with the remains. If you do not have that option then you will want to dig a grave and cover with debris and clearly mark it with contrasting colors. Leaving behind anyone goes against the social norm but sometimes you have no choice for the safety of the group. It might be for the greater good, but you need to focus on the living and stay focused on survival tasks.
Record down in writing, photography or video if possible as much key information about the location of the remains before departure. The more information you attain, the easier it makes recovery of the remains later, The hardest thing anyone can deal with in a survival situation is the death of another. It will play against your psychology and add to the fear factor of the group. You will need to continue to defeat fear, do not let fear defeat you. Your survival depends on it, if you allow fear to overtake you bad things happen.
After Rescue:
Take everything you recorded and/or wrote down and had it over to law enforcement immediately. Be prepared to be interviewed extensively and share as many details as you can remember and remain calm. Once the authorities gather the information they will send out teams to locate and recover the body.

Gas Masks
3/5/2016
"Gas Masks: Have charcoal filters and in a nerve, or blood agent chemical contaminated environment; filters must be changed every 45 mins. You will also need several suits lined with charcoal and those too must be changed commonly known as a MOPP exchange. This must be done in a safe controlled location. Also you must consume large amounts of water while wearing the suits due the elevated body heat. You will also need to seal all openings to the suit around the wrists, waist and ankles. You must have a chemicals hood attached to the Mask you fully cover and seal your head and neck and tape sealed the opening of the hood to the suit to prevent liquid and gas contamination. Their are designated filters for the mask that work with tear gas and nerve/blood agents. Unless you meet the above standard all you have is a false sense of security." ~Daniel W. Shrigley | |

Elizabeth Laird hugged close to 500,000 troops By Kevin Kline Published: December 25, 2015, 10:17 am Updated: December 25, 2015, 3:50 pm
AUSTIN (KXAN)- With a hug full of love, Elizabeth Laird welcomed home soldiers at Fort Hood for years.
Since 2003, she was there as troops left on deployment. She was there when they came home. But on Christmas Eve, the Fort Hood community said goodbye to Laird.
On Friday the III Corps released a statement in remembrance of Laird.
“She has long been associated with Fort Hood for her dedication, support, and genuine care for our Soldiers, Families and Civilian employees,” wrote Col. Christopher C. Garver. “It is with heavy hearts that we express our gratitude for Elizabeth, not only for her service with the U.S. Air Force, but also in recognition of her tireless efforts to show her appreciation for our Soldiers and her recognition of their many sacrifices.
Affectionately known as the ‘Hug Lady’, Laird gained a following among the men and women on post, especially from the 1st Cavalry. The division posted a photo and memorial to the woman who brought so much comfort to the troops.
With hundreds of comments and thousands of shares, veterans and current soldiers alike bid Laird a farewell. Daniel Shrigley, who started the Survival Talk Radio program after four deployments called Laird, “the Mother of all military members, she deserves to be a Saint.”
Shrigley continued, “May she Rest In Peace as she joins her husband in heaven. Bless her ever loving soul.”
In 2005, Laird was diagnosed with breast cancer. it didn’t stop her from hugging. But in November of 2015, she was hospitalized. In December, she moved to the Rosewood Nursing and Rehab Center in Harker Heights. Throughout her recovery, troops came by Laird’s room to give her a hug.
Laird made it a mission to hug soldiers before every deployment. According to a GoFundMe page created by Laird’s son to help pay for her medical bills, Laird hugged close to 500,000 troops since the start of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. That page raised more than $90,000 as of Christmas.
