Hurricane - Survival Tips5/9/2017 If you are in the potential zone for impact by a hurricane, here is some survival advice. As the days near and you try to obtain supplies, certain supplies will become a commodity and retailers will run out.
The fundamentals of survival never change. •Fire •Water •Shelter •Food --------- •Clothing •Blankets •Signal/Communications (Signal Mirror/Radio/Cell) Go to your regional namebrand outdoor and sporting good supply chain. They have food kits that are each good for 72 hours per person. They're affordable, and obtain as many as your budget allows you. Also, they have water filtration straws that can filter up to 300 to 500 gallons of water per person, per straw. They also have water filter pumps that can do the same thing and is more user-friendly for groups or families. It would be wise to obtain camping stoves, tents, coolers and other like camping products. You will also want to obtain extra fuel for the stoves, purchase a few propane tanks design for your stoves. Obtain external power source packs for your cellular communications in case electricity goes down. They also have solar energy power packs that you do not need to charge in an outlet that you can do the same thing. It would be wise to secure all supplies in a cachet location inside of a waterproof container, and bury it and elevated ground above a flood line. Ensure you put this at a location that you can have access to and easily remember, 4 to 6 feet deep buried in the ground. Maintain supplies on hand and cachet your oh shit supplies in case the supplies on hand are lost, destroyed or stolen. It is wise to evacuate however if that is not an option for you start looking for tornado shelters and or bomb shelters that can withstand hurricane force winds and large volumes of rain. The average residential home is not built to withstand flooding or winds above 120 mph. I will stress once again if you have the ability to leave the area and travel out-of-state take the advice of your governor and evacuate. Follow all commands by emergency management personnel and pay attention to the news updates. Communicate with family members and VIPs your whereabouts. Find out the location of three major hospitals closest to you. Look for higher ground, A place for you to seek refuge and sanctuary. The winds can be 150 mph or more in a category five hurricane, a pencil at this speed can penetrate through a telephone pole.
